The match against Wkrótce was expected to be yet another tough battle. The team, after losing 0:3 to Dreamers, had to restore own game in order to keep up hopes for staying at the top of the league table. Only a victory could lead to the 2nd place in the table, which was currently occupied by Wkrótce... The match began with a series of mistakes on our side and a very good performance by Wkrótce. We couldn't find a remedy for strong serves and quick attacks, especially from the middle, where our middle blockers struggled to even react properly. What's more, our rivals received very well, which made it more difficult to form solid defence. On the other hand, our reception was unstable making it harder to force opponents' defence. Even though we managed to improve our game towards the end of the set, we lost it 25:22. The second part started alike. In spite of eliminating most of the unforced mistakes from the first set, we still struggled to gain advantage. Surprisingly, we failed to read opponents' game properly and jumped to block their setter when he was in the back court, leaving the hitter on the empty net. Against strong attacks with no block we were helpless. Luckily, we improved our spiking success rate, which helped us keep up with Wkrótce. Towards the end of the set we put more pressure on our rivals and left the court in better moods after the last few tense moments, winning 28:26. From the third set we improved our serving and Wkrótce's reception worsened, which let us gain an advantage. Our spiking rate also improved, which in the end led us to winning this part 25:22. Fourth set looked very similar to the third. Wkrótce didn't manage to keep up their level of play, so it was easier to score for us. Fever attacks from the middle made it easier to read their game and create a solid defence. This, in turn led to winning the part 25:22 and the whole match 3:1. It is important to say that it was one of the toughest matches of the season. The bar was set high and we didn't play well tactically. That's why we should be even more delighted from the very precious victory and strengthening our position in the 2nd place. Lesson for the upcoming matches: always set the block to close the favourite spiking angle for the opponent - especially in the middle. MVP award went to Jarek for the powerful bombarding of the opponents. Team: Jacek K., Jacek S., Jarek, Łukasz W., Maciek, Marek, Mikołaj, Tomek. |
